FIFA World Cup 2026: beIN SPORTS Hits Record 6.2 Billion Viewers Across MENA

The 2026 FIFA World Cup has officially entered the history books, not only for its on-pitch action but for the unprecedented engagement it generated across the Middle East and North Africa. According to independent audience measurement by Ipsos, beIN SPORTS recorded a massive 6.2 billion cumulative viewers throughout the 39-day tournament. This milestone reflects the scale of the first 48-team finals, which saw a record 308 goals scored, nine African nations reaching the knockout stages, and eight Arab teams participating.

The tournament’s final match between Spain and Argentina stood out as a landmark broadcast, drawing 245.4 million viewers—or 68.6% of the region’s total adult population—making it the most-watched event in beIN SPORTS history. Other high-profile matches also drew massive audiences, including the Round of 16 clash between Egypt and Argentina, which saw 192.6 million viewers, a record for a match featuring an Arab team. During the final week, Argentina’s semi-final comeback against England attracted 171.3 million, while Spain’s victory over France drew 168.8 million, and the third-place play-off between England and France reached 162 million.

In total, 22 matches surpassed 100 million cumulative viewers on the network, despite several games kicking off in the early morning hours across the region. Notable examples include Portugal’s match against Spain, which drew 152.1 million viewers, and Brazil’s encounter with Norway, which reached 138.3 million. Arab football also enjoyed a historic tournament, with the eight regional representatives drawing a cumulative 2.1 billion viewers across 29 matches, highlighted by Egypt’s first-ever Round of 16 appearance and Morocco’s second consecutive quarter-final run, which was watched by 151.6 million people.

Mohammed Al Bader, Managing Director of beIN Channels – MENA, noted that the tournament set records for the most goals, the most teams, and the largest broadcast audience in the network’s history. He stated that reaching 6.2 billion viewers over 39 days illustrates the deep significance of football to the region, adding that the network was honored to be the exclusive home for these historic moments.

Digital engagement mirrored the television success, with beIN’s social media platforms generating 16.96 billion impressions, 7.77 billion video views, and over 311 million engagements from more than 11,000 posts. Additionally, 12.2 million new followers joined the network’s social channels during the tournament. The final match alone secured 26 million cumulative viewers on YouTube, peaking at 3.8 million concurrent live views, while the OTT platform beIN CONNECT contributed 9.9 million cumulative views and over 95 million minutes of watch time.

As the exclusive broadcaster across 24 MENA markets, beIN SPORTS provided more than 1,700 hours of live coverage in three languages across eight dedicated channels. This comprehensive effort ensured that the most expansive World Cup to date was matched by the most extensive broadcast coverage in the region’s history.

When Ferran Torres struck in extra time to crown Spain world champions at the New York New Jersey Stadium, 245.4 million were watching across the region, representing 68.6% of MENA’s total adult population.

Similarly, when Egypt took 2022 champions Argentina to the brink in the Round of 16, 192.6 million watched – a record for a match featuring an Arab team.

We are honoured to have been the exclusive home of every moment of it, and prouder still that when Arab teams made history on the pitch, the entire region experienced it together on beIN.”
