Japanese Baseball Legend Nagashima Shigeo Has Died

Japanese professional baseball legend Shigeo Nagashima has passed away at the age of 89.

On Tuesday morning, his former team, the Yomiuri Giants, announced that Nagashima had died due to pneumonia.

In 2022, he suffered a brain hemorrhage and was hospitalized, later undergoing physical rehabilitation.

Born in Chiba Prefecture, Nagashima rose to stardom as a standout player for Rikkyo University. In 1958, he joined the Yomiuri Giants, a prominent team in Japanese professional baseball.

Nagashima retired as a player in 1974 and later served as the Giants’ team manager on two occasions.
