Bangladesh’s national football team has received a major boost as promising newcomer Cuba Mitchell has officially been cleared to represent the country. The attacking midfielder, who was born in England, has received FIFA’s approval, removing all legal barriers to his eligibility for the Bangladesh national team.
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) confirmed that the official clearance from FIFA arrived on the night of June 3, marking a new chapter in Mitchell’s international career.
While all the formalities required for switching his international allegiance have been completed, Mitchell must now await the final decision from head coach Javier Cabrera to secure a place in the main squad.
Currently a regular player for Sunderland’s Under-21 team in England, Mitchell is known for his pace and tactical ability in attack, qualities that could bring a new dimension to Bangladesh’s midfield.
Being of Bangladeshi descent, Mitchell qualified under FIFA regulations to represent the South Asian nation. After expressing a strong desire to play for Bangladesh, BFF Senior Vice President Imrul Hassan played a key role in facilitating the process. Within just a month and a half, Mitchell completed all requirements including birth registration, passport issuance, and clearance from the English Football Association, culminating in FIFA’s final approval.
His inclusion is expected to significantly strengthen Bangladesh’s midfield lineup moving forward.
