Chris Coleman has been dismissed by Belgian side OH Leuven just six months after taking charge, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
The 55-year-old former Wales defender was appointed in December by Leuven, whose ownership group also controls English club Leicester City. Coleman guided the team to an 11th-place finish in the Jupiler Pro League—enough to secure a spot in the playoffs for a potential berth in European competition.
However, Leuven cited underwhelming performances during the playoffs as the reason for parting ways with the experienced coach.
“In those playoffs, the performances remained below expectations,” the club said in a statement. “That is why the club is now opting for change with a view to next season and is ending the collaboration with Coleman.”
Coleman is best known for leading Wales to a historic run to the Euro 2016 semi-finals. His managerial career has also included stints with Fulham, Coventry City, Sunderland, Real Sociedad, and Chinese side Hebei China Fortune.
