NBA free agent Malik Beasley is the subject of a federal investigation into alleged gambling on NBA games, including prop bets placed during the 2023–24 season while he was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. The inquiry is being led by the U.S. District Attorney’s Office and has reportedly been ongoing for several months.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, suspicious betting patterns were flagged by at least one major sportsbook, prompting further review of Beasley’s on-court performance in relation to those bets. The focus is particularly on prop bets involving Beasley’s individual statistics in games earlier this year.
Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, issued a statement stressing that no formal charges have been filed and emphasized the principle of innocence until proven guilty. “An investigation is not a conclusion, and Malik Beasley is cooperating fully,” Haney said.
Beasley, 28, had a strong 2024–25 season with the Detroit Pistons, playing all 82 games and averaging 16.3 points per game. He also set a Pistons franchise record with 319 three-pointers, shooting over 41% from beyond the arc.
The investigation has reportedly stalled contract negotiations between Beasley and the Pistons, who were in talks on a new three-year, $42 million deal. Team officials have put discussions on hold pending the outcome of the federal probe.
This case adds to a growing list of gambling-related incidents in professional sports. The NBA, which enforces a strict policy banning players and team personnel from betting on league games, is said to be fully cooperating with federal authorities.
While no disciplinary action has yet been taken, the outcome of the investigation could have serious implications for Beasley’s career. The league has the authority to impose fines, suspensions, or even lifetime bans for violations of its integrity policies.
