BPL Fixing Probe Concludes: Independent Committee Submits Final Report to BCB After Nine-Month

by Tahmid Rahman

The three-member independent inquiry committee assigned to investigate match-fixing allegations in the 2024–25 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has officially submitted its final report to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday, marking the end of a nine-month-long investigation into one of the most sensitive issues in the nation’s domestic cricket scene.

According to sources within the board, the inquiry committee — formed earlier this year following multiple reports of suspicious activity during the BPL — conducted extensive interviews, reviewed match footage, and analyzed communication records as part of its detailed investigation.

⚖️ Nine Months of Investigation

The committee reportedly worked independently, holding sessions with players, coaches, team owners, franchise officials, and match officials, ensuring every allegation was properly reviewed.

A senior BCB official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed:

“The committee submitted its findings and recommendations today. The report is quite comprehensive and includes clear observations about where preventive systems failed and how to strengthen the league’s anti-corruption framework.”

While the BCB has not yet made the report public, it is understood that the document spans over 100 pages and includes specific recommendations to prevent future occurrences, including stricter player monitoring, betting control measures, and enhanced coordination with the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU).

🏏 Key Allegations and Findings

During the 2024–25 season, several unusual performances and player withdrawals had sparked speculation about potential irregularities. The BCB responded swiftly by forming the independent inquiry body in January 2025, chaired by a former High Court judge, with a senior police official and a former cricketer as members.

While the findings remain confidential, reports suggest that:

  • A few individuals involved in the league may face disciplinary action.

  • The committee identified gaps in communication between the BCB’s anti-corruption wing and franchise management.

  • Recommendations were made to increase surveillance during future tournaments.

“We have tried to ensure transparency and fairness,” said one member of the inquiry team. “Our objective was not just to find wrongdoers but to build a stronger, more accountable system.”

🧩 BCB’s Next Steps

The BCB’s Board of Directors is expected to review the report in its upcoming meeting later this month. Depending on the findings, further action may include disciplinary hearings, reforms in franchise operations, and tighter anti-corruption policies for future editions of the BPL.

“We will carefully go through the committee’s report before making any public statement,” said BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury. “The integrity of the Bangladesh Premier League is of utmost importance to us.”

🔒 Anti-Corruption Reinforcement Expected

The BPL, one of the most popular T20 tournaments in South Asia, has faced previous controversies related to fixing. However, the board has since strengthened its anti-corruption measures, including mandatory education programs for players and the introduction of integrity officers assigned to each team.

The latest investigation and its findings could lead to another wave of reforms, as the BCB looks to safeguard the credibility of Bangladesh’s domestic cricket structure.
