Min Woo Lee Joins Elite Field for DP World India Championship in October

Australian professional golfer Min Woo Lee has confirmed he will make his debut in India at the upcoming DP World India Championship. The event is scheduled to take place at the Delhi Golf Club from October 15 to 18, featuring a high-profile lineup of international talent.

Lee, a fan favorite, will compete alongside notable figures including defending champion Tommy Fleetwood, Career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy, and 2026 Open Champion Ryan Fox. The field also boasts Major winners Shane Lowry and Justin Rose, European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, and Ryder Cup star Viktor Hovland. Local favorites Shubhankar Sharma and Anirban Lahiri are also confirmed to participate.

Reflecting on his upcoming appearance, Lee expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament. “I love playing all around the world and I’m excited to tee it up in India for the first time,” he said. “I heard a lot about last year’s tournament, and it’s shaping up to be another incredible field, so I’m looking forward to the whole experience both on and off the golf course.”

Lee’s professional career has seen significant success since he turned pro in 2019. He secured his first DP World Tour title at the 2020 ISPS HANDA Vic Open and has since claimed two additional victories, including a Rolex Series win in Scotland. Last season, he achieved his first PGA Tour title at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, overcoming competitors such as World Number One Scottie Scheffler and Major champion Gary Woodland. His recent experience includes representing Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and competing for the International team at the 2024 Presidents Cup.

The $4,000,000 DP World India Championship was launched in 2025 by the DP World Tour and global logistics provider DP World. Co-sanctioned with the DP World Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), the event offers the largest prize fund for a DP World Tour event in the country. It serves as the eighth of nine events in the “Back 9” phase of the 2026 Race to Dubai, leading into the season-ending DP World Tour Play-Offs and the final championship in November at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.

Hemant Kumar Ruia, Country Manager for DP World in the Indian Subcontinent, emphasized the company’s long-term commitment to the region. “For over three decades, DP World has invested in India, building the infrastructure and connectivity that help businesses grow, create opportunities, and connect to global markets,” Ruia stated. He noted that the tournament reflects a commitment to fostering ambition and supporting talent.

According to Ruia, the inclusion of players like Lee enhances the tournament’s prestige and serves as an inspiration for the next generation of Indian golfers. “Our ambition is to make golf more accessible, encourage wider participation and contribute to the continued growth of the sport in India,” he added.

The event underscores India’s rising status as a destination for elite golf. DP World’s involvement extends beyond the tournament, encompassing partnerships with the Delhi Capitals and grassroots initiatives such as the “Balls for Birdies” campaign and the Second Life Container project, which utilize the company’s logistics network to increase accessibility to the sport.

Lee claimed his first DP World Tour title in 2020, just a year after turning professional, delighting the home crowd with his victory at the ISPS HANDA Vic Open.
