Sebastien Pocognoli Appointed as New Scotland Men’s Head Coach on Two-Year Deal

Sebastien Pocognoli has officially been appointed as the new head coach of the Scotland men’s national team, signing an initial two-year contract. The 39-year-old Belgian arrives following the seven-year tenure of his predecessor, Steve Clarke.

Pocognoli arrives with a reputation for implementing an attractive, eye-catching style of play, having previously led Union Saint-Gilloise to a domestic title in his homeland. His most recent managerial role was at Monaco, where he was dismissed in June after an eight-month stint, leaving him available for the Scottish FA.

The new head coach faces the significant challenge of maintaining Scotland’s recent success in qualifying for major tournaments. Beyond matching the results achieved during the Clarke era, Pocognoli is expected to oversee a transition in playing philosophy while refreshing the national squad.
