Bashundhara Kings, one of the most successful clubs in Bangladesh football, has successfully resolved its FIFA sanction issues. The six-time league champions were previously facing a total of 14 separate sanctions from the global football governing body. While 11 of these had been addressed earlier, the final three restrictions were officially lifted on Friday night, as confirmed on FIFA’s website. This development removes all legal hurdles for the club, allowing them to participate without restrictions in the upcoming season’s player registration and transfer window.
In response to the evolving situation, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has extended the deadlines for club licensing and squad formation. The deadline for club licensing has been moved to September 1, while the window for player registration and transfers is now open until September 3. This extension provides the five-time Federation Cup winners with the necessary time to assemble a competitive squad for the new campaign.
Other major clubs are also preparing for a highly competitive season. Abahani Limited, having already cleared its own FIFA sanctions, has been active in the market by signing four foreign players, including a Nigerian international who participated in the 2014 World Cup. The Dhanmondi-based club has also retained key local talents such as Sheikh Morsalin, Al Amin, and Mirajul Islam. Meanwhile, Mohammedan Sporting Club is also showing significant activity in building its roster, suggesting that the upcoming league will be intensely contested among the top-tier teams.
However, the status of Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club remains uncertain, as they are still dealing with one remaining FIFA sanction following their relegation last season. If Fakirerpool can successfully resolve their outstanding issue by the September 1 deadline, there is a strong possibility that the 2026-27 league season will feature a total of 13 teams.
