The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially imposed temporary suspensions on three individuals, barring them from all cricket-related activities due to severe corruption allegations surrounding the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). This disciplinary action was initiated by the BCB’s Integrity Unit following findings that the individuals violated several provisions of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Anti-Corruption Code.
The three officials facing these sanctions are Mohammad Moklesur Rahman (Shamim), a former BCB director and former chairman of the audit committee; Zakir Hossain, a former BCB security liaison officer (SLO); and Rakibul Islam Sani, a former BCB councilor from Bogura district and former member secretary of the audit committee. Investigative reports compiled by the board suggest that these individuals were involved in direct or indirect attempts to manipulate match outcomes and influence the natural flow of play.
Specific charges against Mohammad Moklesur Rahman (Shamim) include attempting to fix BPL matches, encouraging others to engage in illicit activities, failing to report corrupt approaches to the BCB’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU), and obstructing investigations by deleting sensitive evidence. Meanwhile, Zakir Hossain has been accused of assisting in efforts to manipulate match results and refusing to cooperate with the anti-corruption investigation team. Rakibul Islam Sani faces allegations of failing to report corrupt approaches to higher authorities as required by protocol and for his lack of cooperation during the inquiry process.
The BCB has issued formal notices to the accused, granting them a 14-day window to provide a written explanation in their defense. Board sources indicated that once these responses are reviewed, the BCB will determine whether to pursue further legal action or impose final disciplinary measures in strict accordance with the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. This investigation underscores the board’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the tournament and upholding international cricketing standards.
