Tawhid Hridoy etched his name into the record books in Potchefstroom, becoming the first Bangladeshi batsman to score a first-class triple century while playing abroad. This historic achievement marks him as only the third Bangladeshi player to reach the 300-run milestone in first-class cricket, joining the ranks of Rakibul Hasan and Tamim Iqbal.
The right-handed batsman reached his triple century on the final day of the four-day match against South Africa ‘A’. He achieved the feat by pushing a delivery from Matthew Boast toward mid-on to complete two runs. His innings, which spanned 451 balls, was highlighted by 25 boundaries and 6 sixes.
Bangladesh ‘A’ faced an early crisis, losing two wickets for just 37 runs when Hridoy arrived at the crease. Despite the quick departures of Mohammad Naim and Afif Hossain, Hridoy remained steadfast. He stabilized the innings by forging a 151-run partnership with Jaker Ali for the fifth wicket. Following Jaker’s dismissal for 94, Hridoy teamed up with Mohammad Saifuddin to add another 185 runs for the sixth wicket. Even after Saifuddin departed for 87, Hridoy maintained his focus.
Although the team faced pressure from losing quick wickets on the final day, Hridoy continued to anchor the innings alongside Rejaur Rahman Raja. At the fall of the eighth wicket, Hridoy was batting on 225, but he accelerated his scoring rate to surpass the 300-run mark.
