Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr has etched its name into football history by shattering a nearly century-old global record for scoring in consecutive top-flight league matches. The milestone was achieved despite a 1-1 draw against Al Khaleej, during which 27-year-old forward Abdullah Al-Hamdan netted a crucial equalizing goal in the 72nd minute to seal the historic feat.
This strike marked Al Nassr’s 94th consecutive match in the Saudi Pro League with at least one goal scored, successfully eclipsing the long-standing world record of 93 straight matches set by Argentine powerhouse River Plate between 1933 and 1936. Al Nassr’s remarkable scoring streak began following a 3-0 defeat to Al Hilal in December 2023, immediately bouncing back with a 4-1 victory over Al Riyadh.
Despite the historic world record, the team could not fully celebrate due to sharing points with Al Khaleej, a side sitting just above the relegation zone. The draw caused Al Nassr to slip to third place in the league table, trailing table-toppers Al Hilal by two points and second-placed Al Ittihad by a single point.
Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined the club in December 2023 at 41 years of age, continues to play a pivotal role in the squad. Having netted 105 goals in 113 Saudi Pro League appearances, he is now chasing the unprecedented milestone of 1,000 career goals as he nears the end of his illustrious playing days, bringing his current overall career tally to 979 goals.
