A United States District Court in New York has dismissed a $20m (£15m) damages claim brought by British doubles player Tara Moore against the Women’s Tennis Association. The legal action followed a four-year doping ban that will keep the 34-year-old athlete sidelined until the start of the 2028 season.
Moore had sought damages from the tour’s governing body, alleging that they failed to properly warn participants about the dangers of consuming contaminated meat while competing at a tournament in Colombia. In its ruling, the court rejected the motion and ordered the immediate closure of the case.
Maintaining her innocence regarding intentional doping, Moore described the ongoing legal ordeal as a “nightmare” after the decision was handed down. She further criticized the outcome, stating, “It just shows how broken the anti-doping system is in tennis.” The report also notes that moore, who has always denied intentionally doping, said Sport after the ruling that the case has been a “nightmare”.
