England manager Thomas Tuchel has expressed frustration over Cole Palmer’s repeated absences from the national team, stating the Chelsea forward “misses too many opportunities” to prove his worth. Although Palmer has been a fixture in Chelsea’s starting lineup for all five Premier League matches this season, he has withdrawn from the latest England squad due to ongoing “discomfort and pain.”
Since Tuchel took the helm of the Three Lions in January 2025, the 24-year-old has made only three appearances and was notably omitted from the recent World Cup squad. Tuchel explained that while he does not blame the player, the frequent absences hinder his ability to properly evaluate Palmer’s development within the team structure. According to tuchel, He was not worried that players may put their clubs above playing for their country.
“He misses way too many camps with injuries, and I only want to rely on what I witness and see within my team,” Tuchel said. “If you’re not in camp, there is a next level to impress that you cannot achieve because you can only do it when you are actually on the pitch with me.”
According to current information, Palmer is presently abroad following a specialized, injury-specific rehabilitation program accompanied by a Chelsea coach. His withdrawal comes alongside several other players, including Declan Rice, Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, and Marcus Rashford, who are also unavailable for the upcoming four-match international window. It is understood Palmer is currently abroad completing an injury-specific training plan. Chelsea’s non international players have been given days off and have been permitted to travel if they so wish. Tuchel remains optimistic about public reception, stating, “I would be very surprised if the atmosphere would hold a third place or an accident in the 85th minute of a semi-final against us and against our team, that would surprise me a lot.”
