England fast bowler Brydon Carse is facing formal charges from the Cricket Regulator related to an incident that occurred in Derby during the early morning hours of August 23. The matter is now set for review by the independent Cricket Discipline Panel, which will oversee the adjudication process moving forward.

The investigation centers on a potential violation of Regulation 3.2 of the ECB Professional Conduct Regulations. This specific rule dictates that participants must not engage in any behavior, act, or omission that is considered improper or could potentially harm the reputation of the ECB, the sport of cricket, or other professional cricketers. According to regulation 3.2, “no participant may conduct themself in a manner, do any act or make any omission at any time which is improper or which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the EC.

The controversy emerged when Carse was visiting Derby alongside his Durham teammates following a victory in the County Championship against Derbyshire. Footage shared on social media captured the bowler in handcuffs outside a nightclub. While he was initially arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, he was subsequently de-arrested. Derbyshire Police also conducted an inquiry into an assault allegation linked to the event, but that case was formally closed last month without any further action being taken.

In response to the developments, the ECB issued a brief statement confirming they are aware of the regulator’s decision to charge Carse. An ECB spokesperson emphasized that the player will have the opportunity to respond through the established official process, adding that the governing body intends to refrain from further comment to avoid prejudging the outcome.

Since the incident, Carse’s involvement with the national team has been limited. He was notably omitted from the squad for the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s and has not represented England since. His absence from the international setup continued through the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka, and he was recently excluded from the roster for this month’s upcoming ODI tri-series in Pakistan.
