Bangladesh faced a disappointing conclusion to their Asian Games cricket campaign, failing to secure a medal despite arriving with a full-strength side. Heading into the tournament with high expectations and a clear ambition to reach the final, the team suffered two back-to-back setbacks in Japan within just three days, ultimately walking away without a podium finish.

In the bronze medal match held on October 3 at the Korogi Sports Park in Japan, Sri Lanka dominated the encounter, defeating the Tigers by 63 runs. Sri Lanka batted first and posted 165 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted overs. In response, the Bangladeshi batting lineup collapsed, managing only 102 runs before being bundled out.

The Bangladeshi top order struggled immensely against the “medium-strength” Sri Lankan attack, which included bowlers such as Nuwan Thushara, Tharindu Ratnayake, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, and Banuka Rajapaksa. The team suffered an early blow, losing their first four wickets for just 21 runs. Notably, Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan, and Saif Hasan were all dismissed without scoring, leaving the team at 4 for 3 early on. Nasum Ahmed top-scored for the side with 26 runs, followed by Parvez Hossain Emon with 22, Yasir Ali with 21, Towhid Hridoy with 11, and Rishad Hossain with 10.

Sri Lanka’s bowling attack was clinical, with Thushara, Ratnayake, Viyaskanth, and Rajapaksa each claiming two wickets. Although Sri Lanka also faced a shaky start, losing their first four wickets for just 21 runs, they recovered through a crucial 93-run partnership between Tharindu Ratnayake and captain Sahān Arachchige. Ratnayake struck 65 off 32 balls, featuring seven fours and five sixes, while Arachchige contributed 33 runs. For Bangladesh, Sheikh Mahedi, Mustafizur Rahman, and Saif Hasan each picked up two wickets.
