Abahani Limited secured a commanding 5-1 victory over Dhaka Wanderers during their second Bangladesh Football League match on Saturday at the Chandpur District Stadium. Maruful Haque’s side, who began their season with a draw against PWD, now hold four points from two matches. Despite the win, they remain third in the standings on goal difference, trailing Police FC, who currently lead the table with six points.
Abahani’s dominance was evident from the opening whistle as they controlled nearly 80 percent of possession. Antony Okachi opened the scoring in the fourth minute, followed quickly by Moid Ahmed, who doubled the lead just two minutes later. Although Zahid Hossain pulled one back for Wanderers in the 13th minute, the recovery was short-lived. Michael Babatunde restored the two-goal cushion in the 33rd minute. Abahani maintained their intensity in the second half, with Okachi adding his second goal in the 74th minute before Al-Amin sealed the 5-1 result in stoppage time. In total, Abahani registered 18 shots, 10 of which were on target.
In other league action, Fortis FC played to a 3-3 draw against Dhaka City Club at the Bashundhara Kings Arena. Both teams now sit on four points, with Fortis holding second place over fourth-placed Dhaka City Club due to goal difference. Meanwhile, the encounter between Arambagh and Rahmatganj at the Gopalganj District Stadium also ended in a 2-2 draw.
