Bangladesh faces ongoing batting failures in ODI cricket, having failed to bat their full allotment of 50 overs in any of their last three matches against Afghanistan. The team encountered similar batting issues during their previous series against Zimbabwe. Ahead of the upcoming tri-nation series, new ODI captain Litton Das urged senior players to step up, while offering positive hints about a potential debut for mystery spinner Aliss Al Islam.

Bangladesh will launch their tri-nation series against Zimbabwe today, Saturday, in Abu Dhabi at 5:30 PM Bangladesh time. Speaking ahead of the tournament opener, Litton acknowledged the team’s recent struggles but stressed the need to move past past failures.

Call for Senior Responsibility and Positive Mindset

Emphasizing accountability, the Bangladesh captain declared that as senior players, it is their responsibility to perform. He noted that the squad failed to bat out 50 overs in the ODI series against Afghanistan and faced the exact same problem against Zimbabwe.

However, Litton refused to let past setbacks define future results, urging his team to break free from negative thinking while leveraging their experiences for preparation.

  • He stated that past events should help in preparation, but the team cannot stay trapped in the belief that prior poor performances mean future failures.
  • He stressed maintaining a positive mindset and aiming to play positive cricket.

Aliss Al Islam’s Potential ODI Debut

Spinner Aliss Al Islam gained a maiden ODI call-up after strong domestic displays, with Litton hinting that his debut could arrive during the series against Zimbabwe. Praising his capabilities, Litton highlighted Aliss’s proven track record in white-ball cricket, especially in Bangladesh’s domestic T20 circuit.

Litton noted that now is the right time to include Aliss in the playing XI, adding that the Bangladesh team will benefit if he can contribute effectively alongside the squad.

Aliss’s Career Trajectory and Statistics

Aliss previously made his international T20 debut against Sri Lanka at the Asian Games, though earlier national team call-ups did not lead to playing opportunities. His sustained domestic output eventually earned him this latest selection in the 50-over squad.

During the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, Aliss represented Prime Bank Cricket Club and finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, capturing 24 wickets across 10 matches. He now has the chance to translate that domestic form onto the international stage as Bangladesh balances overcoming batting flaws with integrating fresh talent.
