The Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) is set to host the first monthly tournament for UAE nationals of the 2026-2027 season this Sunday at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. A field of 84 male and female golfers, representing a diverse range of age groups and skill levels, will compete in the event. This tournament serves as a key fixture in the federation’s annual agenda, marking the official launch of a series designed to provide consistent competitive pathways for local players.
Major General (Retd.) Abdullah Al Sayed Al Hashemi, President of the EGF, emphasized that the series is central to the federation’s broader mission of expanding the sport’s domestic reach and enhancing the technical capabilities of its participants. He noted that these recurring competitions are essential for identifying emerging talent and cultivating a healthy competitive spirit among UAE golfers.
A significant highlight of the tournament will be the interaction between the younger generation of players and the sport’s pioneers in the UAE. Board members and distinguished figures who were instrumental in the early development of golf in the country are expected to attend, offering a unique opportunity for knowledge transfer. “We value the participation of the sport’s pioneers and experienced players, who represent an important part of golf’s history in the UAE. Their interaction with the younger generation adds significant value to the sport’s continued development,” Al Hashemi stated.
Beyond immediate competition, the event is structured to foster long-term growth and technical improvement across all levels of play. By establishing a platform where seasoned veterans and rising stars converge, the federation aims to preserve the sport’s rich local history while building on its recent successes for the upcoming season. This initiative is part of a deliberate strategy to raise the standard of golf in the nation.
The EGF president also extended his gratitude to the Abu Dhabi Golf Club for its role in hosting the season opener. He highlighted that such collaboration between the federation and its partner clubs is vital for the effective delivery of national programs, ultimately aiming to elevate the stature of UAE golf both regionally and on the international stage.
