Rangpur Qualifies for Global Super League

by Sports Desk

Last year, the inaugural edition of the Global Super League (GSL) was launched, featuring five franchise teams from five different countries. Representing Bangladesh, the Rangpur Riders emerged as champions of the tournament.

However, despite their GSL success, Rangpur failed to reach the playoffs in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), leading to speculation over whether they would be invited back for the next GSL edition. Those doubts have now been put to rest by GSL Chairman and cricket legend Clive Lloyd.

Lloyd confirmed that Rangpur Riders have officially been invited to participate in the upcoming GSL season. In fact, he emphasized that the tournament is “eagerly awaiting” their return, praising the team for their skill and professionalism during the previous edition.

“We are delighted to welcome back last year’s champions,” said Lloyd. “Rangpur Riders showed tremendous skill and professionalism. They were true champions and worthy winners. We are excited to see them return to Guyana.”

The second edition of the Global Super League is scheduled to take place from July 10 to 18, 2024, in Guyana. While the exact venue and the number of participating teams are yet to be confirmed, organizers anticipate an increase in team numbers compared to last year’s lineup.

As anticipation builds, all eyes will be on Rangpur Riders to see if they can defend their title in this expanding international franchise league.
