IPL Final May Hit Ahmedabad

by Sports Desk

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the schedule for the remainder of the IPL season. While the dates for the playoffs have been finalized, the BCCI has not yet revealed the venues. However, Cricbuzz has reported that one of the playoff matches and the final could be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

If everything goes as planned, the BCCI is likely to host Qualifier 2 and the Final in Ahmedabad. These matches are scheduled to take place on June 1 and June 3, respectively. The board has yet to confirm Ahmedabad as a venue due to concerns about weather forecasts.

The BCCI is closely monitoring the weather patterns in Ahmedabad before making a final decision. Initial forecasts suggest that the likelihood of rain in early June is low. Mumbai remains a potential alternative for the first two playoff matches.

The final decision largely depends on the probability of rain. A few days ago, Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall and the skies have remained cloudy since. If venues in northern India—such as Delhi, Jaipur, or Lucknow—remain unaffected by rain, the board may consider choosing one of them instead.

On May 9, the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was interrupted midway through the first innings due to a floodlight malfunction. For safety reasons, the match was officially abandoned just 10 minutes later. Following that incident, the entire IPL was put on hold.

The BCCI then announced a one-week suspension of the tournament. On Monday, the board released the updated schedule for the remaining matches. According to the new fixture list, the rest of the IPL will be played across six venues: Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.

The BCCI has confirmed that the venues for the playoffs will be announced at a later date, although the playoff schedule itself has already been finalized. As per the new schedule, Qualifier 1 will be held on May 29, the Eliminator on May 30, Qualifier 2 on June 1, and the Final on June 3. A total of 17 matches remain, including two double-headers, both of which will take place on Sundays.
