Cricketers’ Fitness Camp Amid Hills, Sea

by Sports Desk

After returning home last month from the Women’s ODI World Cup qualifiers in Pakistan—where they secured a last-minute qualification—Bangladesh’s women’s cricket team didn’t rest for long. Following a short break, the players are now back to training, but this time with a focus purely on fitness, not bat and ball.

On May 8, the women’s team traveled to Cox’s Bazar and their fitness camp officially began on May 9. A group of 15 players is currently taking part in the camp, which will continue until May 18. Since no skill-based cricket training is involved, the team’s coaches are not present. Instead, the squad is being accompanied by the team’s trainer and physiotherapist.

Team manager Golam Faiyaz spoke to Dhaka Post on Tuesday about the ongoing program:
“This is a fitness-based conditioning camp. The entire focus is on physical training. The players are doing running sessions, particularly to build strength—on sand and in the hills.”

He added, “Yesterday, they did running in the sea. The sand here helps build strength and endurance. The camp will continue until the 18th, and we’ll return on the 19th. Discussions about the next tournament are ongoing, but since this camp is only for fitness, the coaches are not involved.”
