South Africa Announces Squad for Inaugural ICC World Test Championship Final
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has officially announced its squad for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final, making just two changes from their most recent Test series lineup. Batter Matthew Breetzke and young pacer Kwena Maphaka have been left out, while fast bowler Lungi Ngidi returns to the squad after recovering from injury.
This will be South Africa’s first appearance in a WTC Final. Under the leadership of Temba Bavuma, the Proteas topped the points table at the end of the league stage with a percentage points tally of 69.44%.
Head coach Shukri Conrad expressed pride in the selection, stating:
“First and foremost, congratulations to every player selected. Playing in a WTC Final is a special occasion for this group. Over the past 18 months, we’ve worked hard to build a competitive red-ball unit, and this achievement reflects that effort.”
He added: “One of the key reasons behind our success has been selection consistency. We’ve backed the core group of players who were with us throughout the WTC cycle. Considering the conditions at Lord’s, we’ve picked a balanced squad suited for those challenges.”
