At the end of this month, Bangladesh was scheduled to tour Pakistan for a five-match T20I series. The series was seen as a key preparatory platform ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, recent military tensions between India and Pakistan have raised questions over the feasibility of the tour.
Although a ceasefire has reportedly been established between the two countries, concerns over the security situation still linger. According to reports in Pakistani media, the Bangladesh team is open to playing under a revised schedule. However, ESPNcricinfo reports that Bangladesh is waiting for a decision from its government regarding participation.
As per the original schedule, Bangladesh was set to play five T20Is in Pakistan from May 25 to June 3. Due to the border tensions between India and Pakistan, changes have already been made to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) schedule, with the remaining fixtures of the franchise league now set to conclude on May 25.
This has led to a delay in the Bangladesh series as well. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already drafted a revised schedule for the series, with the first match set for May 27 and the final game on June 5.
Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, BCB’s media committee chairman Iftikhar Rahman said that the final decision on the tour would depend on reports from Bangladesh’s security agencies and the country’s High Commission in Islamabad.
He stated, “Once we receive the official correspondence regarding the dates and venues, we will forward it to the relevant government departments. The BCB will not make a unilateral decision on this matter. If our security agencies and the Bangladesh Embassy in Islamabad deem the tour safe, we will go ahead with it.”
He further added, “It was decided in previous meetings that in such situations, opinions must be sought from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs. Only after clearance from all parties will the tour be confirmed. Previously, there were major concerns about security, but Pakistan has shown that they are capable of hosting visiting teams safely. Still, given the current scenario, it is important to assess whether the entire country is stable.”
Notably, before traveling to Pakistan, the Bangladesh team is scheduled to play two T20Is against the United Arab Emirates. The Pakistan tour will follow immediately after that.
