Former World Cup-winning forward Rivaldo has expressed optimism over the appointment of Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti as the head coach of the Brazil national team. Although he has long favored Brazilian coaches, Rivaldo now sees this foreign appointment as a positive and promising move.
Impressed by Ancelotti’s experience and success, Rivaldo believes the veteran coach could be the one to finally lead Brazil to their long-awaited sixth World Cup title — the “Hexa.”
In a statement, Rivaldo said, “Ancelotti can build a balanced and strong squad with players from both Europe and Brazil. With proper analysis and enough time, the dream of winning our sixth World Cup could become a reality under his leadership.”
Rivaldo, who played a key role in Brazil’s last World Cup triumph in 2002, added from his own experience, “At least we’ve chosen one of the best. I played under Ancelotti at AC Milan. Everywhere he has gone, he’s won titles.”
Still, the former star reminded everyone of a significant fact — all five of Brazil’s World Cup titles have come under Brazilian coaches. He also pointed out that no foreign coach has ever won a World Cup with any team, subtly defending his earlier stance.
“No matter what, all our World Cups have been won under Brazilian coaches. That’s an important reality,” he concluded.
