Man City Gears Up for Surprise

by Sports Desk

Over a hundred Financial Fair Play allegations hang over their name, yet when a new transfer window looms, there’s no ruling Manchester City out of the equation. The summer transfer window kicks off in June, and while the football world has been buzzing for weeks, City has maintained a notable silence — perhaps the calm before a storm.

According to major outlets like Sky Sports and Marca, that silence could be a prelude to something big. Manchester City is reportedly preparing to make major moves, targeting two of the brightest stars in world football: Florian Wirtz and Rodrygo.

In a surprising twist, City has jumped into the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz. Just last week, Bayern Munich were believed to be the front-runners, having offered a staggering €125 million transfer fee and another €125 million in wages — a total package worth €250 million. However, that deal might be falling through.

According to German outlet Bild, Wirtz’s parents have already flown to England for talks with City. Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, are reportedly reluctant to sell their prized asset to domestic rivals Bayern, opening the door for City to swoop in. That said, Bayern aren’t ready to give up yet and are still pushing with a hefty offer of their own. Wirtz, for now, is biding his time before making a final decision.

On the other front, Manchester City is also making a strong push for Real Madrid’s Brazilian winger Rodrygo. Unhappy with his position in the squad hierarchy — behind the likes of Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Jr., and Jude Bellingham — Rodrygo is said to be open to a move. The emergence of young Arda Güler has further added pressure to his place in the team.

Rodrygo was previously approached by City in 2024, but he turned down the offer. This time, however, the scenario is different. Pep Guardiola has reportedly been a big admirer of the Brazilian ever since his stellar performance against City in the 2022 Champions League.

Any club wanting to sign Rodrygo will have to shell out at least €85 million, although his release clause currently stands at €100 million. But with Real Madrid looking to fund multiple new signings this summer, Los Blancos may be open to letting him go for slightly less.

In short, despite the controversies surrounding them, Manchester City is gearing up for a blockbuster summer — with Florian Wirtz and Rodrygo at the center of their transfer ambitions.
