La Liga’s title race could have been settled at Mallorca’s home ground. A slip-up by Real Madrid would have crowned Barcelona as champions, reclaiming the league title after a one-season gap. And Real came dangerously close to that slip — but in the end, they narrowly escaped. A last-minute goal turned everything around.
At Santiago Bernabeu, in the 95th minute, a stunning strike by 20-year-old defender Jacobo Ramon secured a dramatic 2–1 victory for Real Madrid over Mallorca, extending Barcelona’s wait for the title.
Mallorca had taken the lead early in the match. In the 11th minute, Martin Valjent fired a precise shot past Thibaut Courtois from the right side, putting the visitors ahead. The goal came in Courtois’ 200th La Liga appearance. Despite the early setback, Real didn’t back down. Missing key attackers like Vinícius Junior and Rodrygo, the offensive responsibility fell on Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham.
Relentlessly pressing for a goal, Real created chance after chance, but Mallorca’s goalkeeper Leo Román delivered a series of brilliant saves to keep them at bay.
Finally, in the 68th minute, Mbappé broke through. The French star weaved past three defenders and fired a low shot into the net — his 40th goal of the season.
But the drama was far from over. Courtois denied a strike from Mateu Morey, while Roman stopped Arda Guler’s shot. Valjent even cleared a goal-bound effort from Mbappé off the line. Just as a draw seemed inevitable, Jacobo Ramon stepped up.
In the 95th minute, the young defender lobbed a stunning shot over the keeper’s head and into the net, sealing the win for Real Madrid.
With this victory, Real now sit at 78 points from 36 matches. Barcelona, who have played one game fewer, remain ahead with 82 points. Atletico Madrid are third with 70 points.
Still, Barcelona’s title wait may not last much longer — a win against Espanyol on Thursday will secure the league crown.
