News of Mustafizur Rahman being signed by Delhi Capitals (DC) quickly became breaking news in Bangladesh after the franchise made the announcement on its official Facebook page. Indian media outlets also covered the story prominently. Mustafizur has been brought in as a replacement for Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk.
The left-arm pacer has reportedly been offered a record salary of INR 6 crore for a single season, earning approximately INR 4.285 lakh per match. No Bangladeshi players were picked in the 2025 IPL auction, which many speculated was a reflection of strained India-Bangladesh relations following diplomatic tensions since August 5, 2024. However, Delhi’s decision to sign Mustafizur has proven that theory wrong.
Delhi Mustafizur’s former team still has a chance to make the IPL playoffs. They are scheduled to play their remaining league matches against Gujarat Titans on May 18 (home), Mumbai Indians on May 21 and Punjab Kings on May 24. The match against Gujarat is seen as crucial for Delhi’s top-four hopes, and the franchise is eager to have Mustafizur available from that game onward. However, as of this report, the BCB has not yet issued an official NOC for him.
Sources from the BCB’s Cricket Operations Department said there has been no direct communication from IPL or BCCI requesting an NOC for the left-arm pacer, although this is typically addressed at the time of player registration for the tournament. If the BCB and team management approve, Mustafizur could leave for Delhi from Dubai before May 17 to join the IPL.
A national team official hinted that the team may be open to releasing him, saying, “We have five pace bowlers in the squad. Missing one for a two-match series in the UAE wouldn’t hurt. The team management might allow Mustafiz to go.”
However, BCB has stated that Mustafizur will likely be allowed to leave for the IPL only after the final T20 match in the UAE on May 19.
