Taskin’s comeback expected in June

Due to injury, Tashkin Ahmed missed the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe at home. Now, the fast bowler is eagerly preparing to make his return to the field. Earlier this month, Tashkin traveled to England for treatment, consulting with three sports physiotherapists during his stay.

Since returning to Bangladesh, Tashkin has been following a strict rehabilitation program and regularly practicing at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. His main focus has been on running sessions to rebuild his fitness.

On Thursday (May 15), Tashkin spoke to the media in Mirpur about his comeback prospects. He said, “It’s difficult to give an exact date for my return, but I hope to come back during the upcoming Sri Lanka series. Hopefully, I’ll be ready by early June if all goes well. I’m happy with how things are progressing, Alhamdulillah. I have no complaints so far, and if the recovery continues smoothly, it will be great.”

Before his injury, Tashkin had played several matches in the recent Dhaka Premier League after returning from the Champions Trophy. However, a ligament injury in his ankle forced the star pacer out of the game. Prior to his trip to England, BCB’s medical officer Debashish explained that Tashkin would have to manage an abnormal bone growth in his left ankle while continuing to play. “He will experience pain during movement, but it will have to be managed,” Debashish said.

Bangladesh is scheduled to play a full series against Sri Lanka in June and July, which is expected to mark Tashkin’s return to competitive cricket. Debashish expressed optimism about his recovery timeline, stating, “If Tashkin’s rehabilitation is successful, he should regain match fitness by early June.” This means the experienced right-arm pacer will need to stay off the field for about another month.
