Even before the European football transfer window officially opens major clubs have begun their transfer activity in earnest. One of the most in-demand young talents right now is 19-year-old center-back Dean Huijsen. Despite his young age Huijsen has already showcased impressive defensive abilities catching the attention of several top clubs. At least four clubs were reportedly in the race to sign him but it appears Real Madrid have emerged victorious.
According to English outlet The Athletic Huijsen—currently playing for Premier League side Bournemouth—has agreed to a six-year contract with Real Madrid, which will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2030. The Spanish giants have set a release clause of €50 million for the defender, which they will pay in three installments. Meanwhile Spanish outlet Marca reports that Real Madrid are also in negotiations for Arsenal defender William Saliba.
Renowned Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news, stating that Huijsen completed his medical in London yesterday after reaching an agreement with Real. Prior to his move to professional football Huijsen spent his formative years from 2015 to 2021 playing in the youth system of Málaga. He made his professional debut with Italian club Juventus but now prepares for his first stint in La Liga with Real Madrid.
Huijsen was reportedly one of the top targets for Real Madrid’s incoming head coach Xabi Alonso. Carlo Ancelotti’s side—soon to be his former team—struggled with defensive issues throughout the current season. As a result Real Madrid is determined to strengthen their backline before the start of the new campaign.
One of the club’s most talked-about moves is the anticipated signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to join Madrid as a free agent from Liverpool with only the official announcement pending. Following him Huijsen is expected to be the second defensive reinforcement.
Real Madrid had to fend off strong competition from Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea to land the young center-back. With the FIFA Club World Cup kicking off next month, Madrid was prepared to go all out to secure his signature.
