Bangladesh-India Set for Grand Finale

by Sports Desk

A Bangladesh-India clash in sports always sparks extra excitement—be it in any format or age level. Today (Sunday), the final of the SAFF U-19 Championship carries that same thrill. The title decider will kick off at 7:30 PM Bangladesh time at the Golden Jubilee Stadium in Yupia, Arunachal Pradesh.

Last year, Bangladesh were crowned champions of the SAFF U-20 tournament held in Nepal. This time, head coach Golam Rabbani Choton hopes to return home with the U-19 title as well. He said, “The boys have played good football in every match of this tournament. They are confident and fully prepared for the final. We ask for the nation’s prayers so we can bring the championship trophy back home.”

Bangladesh drew one of their three matches, while India won all of theirs. India’s defense has remained unbreached, while Bangladesh have conceded three goals so far. Statistically and as hosts, India appear to have the upper hand. Still, Indian head coach Bibiano Fernandes is not underestimating Bangladesh: “Bangladesh played well, especially in the semifinal. We respect them and want to give our best in the final.”

Bangladesh captain Nazmul Huda Faisal has been leading from the front—scoring three goals and assisting several others. Regarding the final, he said, “There’s always excitement in a final. Both teams will aim to win the trophy with their best game. Insha’Allah, we want to return home with the title.”

Sharing his thoughts on the team’s journey, Faisal added, “We’ve been confident since the start. Since our final opponent is India, that makes it even more special. India are a good team and we respect them. But we’ll give our 100% to achieve our goal.”

India’s captain, Singamayan Shami, is equally determined to keep the SAFF trophy at home: “We want to give our best. We’re ready for the battle and we aim to keep the trophy in our country.”
