The rumors had been circulating for several days—and now it’s official. After the departure of Anfield’s hometown hero Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool were expected to bring in a new right-back. That wait didn’t last long. Just a couple of weeks later, the Premier League champions have landed their replacement.
And it’s a familiar name Jeremie Frimpong, the in-form right-back from the German Bundesliga. Fresh off a title-winning season with Bayer Leverkusen, the Dutch international has now taken on a new challenge—English football and the Premier League.
Renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the transfer. Liverpool are spending €35 million to activate Frimpong’s full release clause, bringing him in on a five-year deal. He will join the Reds as a direct replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
On the same day, Liverpool also strengthened the right-back position further by renewing the contract of young defender Conor Bradley until 2029. For Liverpool fans, it’s two major updates even before the transfer window officially opens.
Frimpong had already reached a verbal agreement with Liverpool last week—what remained was an agreement between the two clubs. That was finalized on Saturday. At Liverpool, he will be coached by fellow Dutchman Arne Slot and join a squad that includes Netherlands teammates Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo.
This past Bundesliga season, Frimpong scored 5 goals and provided 5 assists in 33 matches. He also contributed 3 assists in 10 Champions League appearances. Known for his versatility, he can play as a right-back, right wing-back, or even as a right midfielder when needed. At 24 years old, Frimpong arrives as a long-term addition to Liverpool’s squad.
