Bangladeshi all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has arrived in Lahore to join the Lahore Qalandars camp for the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. Miraz left Bangladesh on the evening of May 20 and after a layover in the UAE, landed in Lahore on the morning of May 21.
The former PSL champions Lahore Qalandars welcomed Miraz warmly, hailing him as a “spin wizard” on social media. The franchise posted a photo of Miraz with the caption:
“The Spin Wizard has arrived in town. Miraz is now in Lahore to play the remaining matches of PSL. Qalandars fans, let’s welcome our new Qalandar brother!”
Miraz joins a Qalandars side that also includes Bangladesh’s former captain Shakib Al Hasan. Earlier in the season, young Bangladeshi leg-spinner Rishad Hossain had also featured for the team but is currently with the national team and will not continue in the PSL.
Despite being named the Player of the Tournament in the 2024 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Miraz was not included in Bangladesh’s T20I squad. Speaking before his departure, he reflected on his exclusion with maturity:
“If I were part of the T20I squad, I wouldn’t have been able to play in the PSL. So maybe this happened for the better. I’m taking it positively. The selectors have their own plans and strategies. I believe it’s a positive outcome.”
While he admitted feeling disappointed about not making the national team despite his strong domestic performances, Miraz added:
“As a player, it obviously feels bad. I was the man of the tournament in the BPL and played well in some T20s. But that’s part of cricket — sometimes things don’t go your way. I always try to stay positive and take everything in stride.”
Mehidy and Shakib’s Lahore Qalandars will face Karachi Kings in the Eliminator match on May 22.
