It was a night to forget for Delhi Capitals as they crashed out of the IPL after a heavy defeat to Mumbai Indians. For Delhi pacer Mukesh Kumar, things went from bad to worse — not only did he have a forgettable performance with the ball, but he was also handed a fine after the match.
Despite picking up two wickets, Mukesh conceded 48 runs in 4 overs, struggling throughout the innings. His performance hit a low point in the 19th over, where he was smashed for 27 runs, allowing Mumbai to reach a formidable total of 180.
To add to the disappointment, the IPL governing body fined Mukesh 10% of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct (Article 2.2, Level 1 offence). The charge related to “abuse of cricket equipment, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings” during the match. The decision was made by match referee Daniel Manohar, and Mukesh accepted the sanction without contest, so no formal hearing was required.
Mukesh’s overall season has been underwhelming. He played in 11 of Delhi’s 13 matches, picking up 11 wickets with an average of 32.63 and an economy rate of 10.11.
As Delhi bows out of the tournament, the team — and Mukesh — will be looking to regroup and reflect ahead of the next season.
