A major controversy has erupted in Indian women’s cricket following serious allegations made by national team all-rounder Deepti Sharma against her former teammate Aarushi Goel. Deepti has accused Aarushi of defrauding her of approximately ₹25 lakh (2.5 million rupees) and stealing cash and jewelry by breaking into her home.

The FIR (First Information Report) was filed by Deepti’s brother, Sumit Sharma, at the Sadar Police Station in Uttar Pradesh. According to the complaint, the two women became friends through cricket, after which Aarushi and her family repeatedly sought financial help citing personal and financial crises.

Sumit stated, “Over the past two years, my sister has given Aarushi nearly ₹25 lakh. When asked to return the money, Aarushi refused.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sukanya Sharma confirmed that a preliminary investigation has found merit in the complaint. The FIR includes charges under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS):

Section 305A – Theft

Section 333(3) – Housebreaking
