Despite a 2–0 victory over Como in their final match, Inter Milan were left heartbroken—falling just one point short in the title race. On Friday, May 23, Napoli clinched the Serie A title with a 2–0 win over Cagliari, securing their second league title in the last three seasons.
The decisive goals came from Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku, who sealed the championship for the Naples-based club.
The title race went down to the wire. Napoli entered the final matchweek with 79 points from 37 matches, while Inter had 78. Any slip-up from Napoli could have handed Inter the title, but McTominay and Lukaku ensured there would be no such chance.
Just three minutes before halftime, McTominay gave Napoli the lead with a stunning bicycle kick. Connecting with a cross from Matteo Politano just six yards from goal, the Scottish midfielder sent the fans into raptures.
Six minutes into the second half, Lukaku doubled the lead. He controlled a long pass from defender Amir Rrahmani, then beat both a defender and the goalkeeper to calmly slot it into the net.
Napoli held on to their two-goal advantage to seal the victory—and with it, the fourth Serie A title in their history. It marks a second championship in three seasons, reaffirming Napoli’s return to Italian football’s elite.
