In the recently concluded season of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), Hannan Sarkar made headlines as the head coach of Abahani Limited. In his very first stint as a head coach, he led the team to the championship. Naturally, it was widely expected that Abahani would retain him for the next season. However, the situation has taken a dramatic turn—Hannan is set for a new destination.
In the upcoming DPL season, Hannan will take charge as the head coach of Legends of Rupganj. Talks with the Rupganj management had been ongoing for some time, and the deal has now been finalized. Despite his successful debut campaign with Abahani, his time with the club has come to an end after just one season.
Not long ago, Hannan stepped down from his role as a selector at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)—a position he had held since 2016. Over nearly nine years, he was involved in selecting squads at various levels, from age-group teams to the national side.
After resigning as a selector, he quickly transitioned into coaching. While his coaching career began with Abahani, the move to Rupganj presents him with a fresh opportunity to shape his journey in a new environment.
