Delhi Capitals wrapped up their IPL 2025 campaign with a thrilling win, defeating Punjab Kings by 6 wickets in their final match of the season. Despite having no chance of making the playoffs, Delhi ended their journey on a positive note thanks to standout performances from Mustafizur Rahman with the ball and Sameer Rizvi with the bat.
After winning the toss, Delhi opted to field first. With regular captain Axar Patel sidelined due to injury, Faf du Plessis led the side for the match. Batting first, Punjab Kings posted a formidable total of 206 for 8.
Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers, delivering a brilliant spell of 4 overs for just 33 runs, and picking up three crucial wickets — Priyansh Arya, Shashank Singh, and Marco Jansen.
For Punjab, captain Shreyas Iyer scored a solid 53 off 34 balls, while Josh Inglis provided a quickfire 32 off 12. The most explosive innings, however, came from Marcus Stoinis, whose 44 off just 16 balls helped Punjab cross the 200-run mark.
In reply, Delhi got off to a steady start, with KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis putting together a 55-run opening stand. Rahul made 35, while Faf contributed 26. Coming in at No. 3, Karun Nair played a composed innings of 44 off 27.
Despite a slight slowdown in the middle overs due to tight bowling from Punjab, the momentum shifted decisively in Delhi’s favor thanks to Sameer Rizvi, who played a match-winning knock. He stayed unbeaten on 58 off just 25 balls, sealing the win with a six off the third ball of the final over.
Though the victory didn’t secure Delhi a place in the playoffs, it gave them a winning end to their season. On the other hand, the loss proved costly for Punjab Kings, as they missed the chance to finish in the top two on the points table.
