Former NBA Star Reacts with Excitement to Reported Warriors-Celtics Trade

by Sports Desk

Last week, The Ringer’s Logan Murdock revealed on The Lowe Post that Boston Celtics guard Derrick White has emerged as a potential trade target for the Golden State Warriors this offseason. Since arriving in Boston in 2022, White has evolved into one of the NBA’s most dependable role players, contributing to three Eastern Conference Finals, two NBA Finals appearances, and a championship. He’s also earned two NBA All-Defensive Team selections.

While it’s unclear whether the trade will come to fruition, former NBA standout and three-time Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams is fully on board with the idea.

Appearing on FanDuel’s Run It Back, Williams praised White as a seamless fit in Golden State.

“I like this a lot,” said Williams. “He fits their style. He can shoot the basketball. He’s going to defend. He’s tough. He’s smart. A very cerebral basketball player. He checks all of the boxes for the style of play the Golden State Warriors like to play.”

The challenge, however, lies in making the deal work financially. Jonathan Kuminga has been mentioned as a possible piece going the other way, but Boston’s current financial situation complicates matters. Being over the NBA’s second tax apron means the Celtics are prohibited from executing sign-and-trade deals, which limits flexibility.

Still, from a basketball perspective, the move would make sense for Golden State. White has been a consistent shooter, hitting 38.1%, 39.6%, and 38.4% from three-point range over the last three seasons—exactly the type of floor spacing and perimeter defense the Warriors could use as they look to retool their roster.
