On Saturday, Shabab Al Ahli secured a vital 2-0 victory over Al Ain at Rashid Stadium, bringing their rivals’ unbeaten start to the season to an end. Sardar Azmoun opened the scoring in first-half injury time (45+1′) off a pass from Breno Cascardo, scoring Shabab Al Ahli’s first shot on target after Al Ain had dominated with 60% possession and 12 attempts in the opening period.
Kauan Santos Silva doubled the advantage for the hosts in the 59th minute to place Shabab Al Ahli firmly in control. Al Ain tried to mount a response but struggled to break down the home defense, with their efforts compounded late in the game when Abdulkarim Trawri received a red card. Leaving Al Ain with ten players, the visitors’ task became even more difficult late in the match when Abdulkarim Trawri was sent off.
The result propelled Shabab Al Ahli into third place with 13 points, jumping ahead of Al Ain who dropped to fourth on the same points total. Shabab Al Ahli also improved their record in league encounters against Al Ain when playing them as defending champions, registering seven wins compared to three for Al Ain.
The defeat halted Al Ain’s 19-match unbeaten away run in the Pro League and represented their first league defeat since losing to Khorfakkan in March 2025. It also marked the first time Al Ain failed to score in a league game since facing Ajman in May 2025, stopping a 32-match scoring run. Meanwhile, Sardar Azmoun kept up his impressive form at Rashid Stadium, where he has now recorded 10 of his 16 overall ADNOC Pro League goals.
