Veteran spinner Amit Mishra has rejoined the Delhi Capitals franchise as their spin bowling coach. His appointment follows a major shake-up of the backroom staff that recently welcomed head coach Sourav Ganguly, assistant coach Yuvraj Singh, and fast bowling coach Chaminda Vaas.
Mishra brings extensive tournament experience, having contested 162 matches across 16 seasons since the inaugural edition in 2008. He spent 10 of those seasons with this franchise when it was known as the Delhi Daredevils. Having played 162 matches across 16 seasons, starting all the way back in the inaugural edition in 2008, mishra has rich IPL experience. He started out at the same franchise – called Delhi Daredevils then – and played 10 of his seasons with them.
Having last featured in the tournament in 2024, Mishra has claimed 174 wickets, which includes a best bowling figure of 5 for 17. He remains the sole player in tournament history to record three hat-tricks, achieving the feats with Delhi Daredevils in 2008, Deccan Chargers in 2011, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013. He now joins fellow support staff member Yuvraj Singh, who is one of only two players with two tournament hat-tricks. His fellow support staff member is one of two cricketers with two hattricks in IPL (Yuvraj Singh in 2009), coincidentally.
This appointment will particularly benefit the franchise’s newest left-arm wrist spinner Zeeshan Ansari, acquired via a trade with Sunrisers Hyderabad involving T Natarajan. Leg-spinners Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed are also positioned to benefit if retained for the upcoming campaign.
