Annabel Sutherland delivered a dominant all-round performance to lead Sunrisers Leeds to a decisive victory over the Manchester Super Giants in their winner-takes-all clash. Her unbeaten 62 off 36 balls and a clinical 2-17 bowling spell secured the Sunrisers a place in Friday’s (August 14) Eliminator match against the Southern Brave.
Sent in to bat, the Sunrisers gained early momentum through Phoebe Litchfield, who struck five boundaries in a quick-fire 27 off 12 deliveries. While Lauren Winfield-Hill (20 off 15) and Danielle Gibson (24 off 13) provided steady support, the innings was anchored by Sutherland. She accelerated significantly during the final stages, smashing three sixes off Ryana MacDonald-Gay to reach her half-century and help the team accumulate 35 runs from the final ten deliveries, setting a target of 167.
In response, the Super Giants began their chase with a promising 42-run opening partnership. Although Jess Jonassen dismissed Smriti Mandhana (28 off 17) in the 24th ball, Grace Scrivens maintained the scoring pace. However, the momentum shifted when Richa Ghosh struggled to find her rhythm after being promoted up the order. The innings collapsed as both Scrivens and Ghosh were removed in the 54th and 56th balls, respectively, triggering an irrecoverable decline.
The Super Giants’ chase faltered as the required run rate climbed and the middle order failed to stabilize. Meg Lanning (10 off 15) was bowled by Jonassen, and Kathryn Bryce (15 off 14) was retired out, leaving the team 41 runs short of the target.
