Bangladesh is set to play a Test match on Australian soil for the first time in 23 years. The opening encounter of the two-match series is scheduled to begin this Thursday at 6:30 AM Bangladesh time at the Marrara Stadium in Darwin. Despite the long hiatus, Australian captain Pat Cummins has expressed a cautious approach, refusing to underestimate the visiting side ahead of the series.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference, the Australian skipper emphasized that he expects a challenging contest against the Tigers. Cummins noted that he has never participated in a Test match that he considered easy, and he anticipates that Bangladesh will prove to be a formidable opponent. He acknowledged that because several Australian players have not faced many of the Bangladeshi cricketers, there remains an element of the unknown heading into the series.
Cummins highlighted that the recent performances of the Bangladeshi team have not gone unnoticed. He pointed out that they have secured several significant victories over the past few years and possess a roster filled with talented individuals. Consequently, he stressed that the Australian team must remain fully prepared for the competition. He added that when facing Bangladesh in major ICC events, there is always a sense of nervousness because the squad features several high-caliber players capable of changing the game.
Regarding the playing conditions in Darwin, the Australian captain shared his assessment of the pitch. He described the surface as looking quite good, noting that it felt firm to the touch. Cummins recalled that when the Australia ‘A’ team played at the same venue last year, the pitch offered a balanced contest, serving as a solid surface for batting while simultaneously providing enough pace and bounce to assist the fast bowlers.
