Following a heavy defeat to Zimbabwe, the Bangladesh cricket team has been handed a fine for a slow over-rate during the opening match of the tri-nation ODI series. The International Cricket Council penalized all players in the playing XI 5 percent of their match fees after the team fell one over short of the required target within the allotted time.
Acting captain Tawhid Hridoy accepted the sanction proposed by match referee David Boon, making a formal hearing unnecessary. Regular captain Litton Das missed the fixture due to injury, while all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz was sidelined by illness.
The financial penalty compounds a difficult start for the squad following their poor on-field performance. Bangladesh will look to bounce back when they face Afghanistan in their second fixture of the tournament on October 21.
