Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials confirmed on Monday, August 31, that fast bowler Nahid Rana will not be part of the squad for the upcoming Asian Games, which are set to take place in Japan starting in mid-September. The decision comes as the team management opts for a cautious approach to his ongoing rehabilitation.
Rana recently resumed bowling in the nets at the BCB Academy after a six-week layoff caused by a side strain injury, which also forced him to miss the recent two-match Test series against Australia. The injury was originally sustained during the tour of Zimbabwe. Despite his return to training, BCB chief selector Habibul Bashar emphasized that the board is unwilling to risk his fitness prematurely.
“We are not considering Nahid Rana for the Asian Games owing to his rehabilitation process,” Bashar stated. He confirmed that while the pacer’s participation in the Asian Games is officially off the table, the board is looking ahead to his recovery for the upcoming Afghanistan series in October. Whether Rana will feature in the Test or ODI format for that series remains to be determined, but his exclusion from the September tournament is absolute. The report also notes that but it is 100% confirmed that he will not play in the Asian Games,” he added.
