Hamza Dewan Chowdhury, who has played in the English Premier League, arrived in Dhaka on Saturday morning to take part in Bangladesh’s home match against Singapore in the June window of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
He landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 10:45 AM on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from London. Three executive members of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) were present at the airport to welcome him. Hamza’s parents also accompanied him on the trip. After completing immigration formalities, the England-born midfielder headed straight to the national team hotel.
Following a brief rest, Hamza is expected to join the team’s training session later in the afternoon at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. However, as with previous sessions, national team head coach Javier Cabrera has kept today’s training behind closed doors — meaning access is restricted for media and the general public.
Hamza made his debut for Bangladesh in the Asian Cup qualifiers on March 25, when the team played India in Shillong. On that occasion, he traveled directly to Sylhet with his family, where massive crowds of local fans created chaotic scenes at the airport and hotel. Taking lessons from that experience, this time the reception was more organized and low-key.
With expectations soaring, fans eagerly await to see the midfielder play on home soil for the first time in a Bangladesh jersey. The national team is currently in the final phase of preparations ahead of the crucial qualifier against Singapore on June 10.
