Bangladesh makes Big Jump in FIFA Rankings

by Sports Desk

World football’s governing body FIFA has released the latest women’s world rankings, and Bangladesh have climbed five spots. In the previous rankings published in March, Bangladesh were ranked 133rd. As of June 12, they have moved up to 128th.

Bangladesh earned this boost following their performance in a tri-nation series held in Jordan during the May FIFA women’s international window. The Red and Green drew both matches against hosts Jordan and Indonesia—teams ranked 59 and 39 spots above Bangladesh, respectively. These results helped Bangladesh increase their ranking points from 1092 to 1099.36, resulting in a five-place rise in the standings.

The next edition of the FIFA women’s rankings will be published on August 7. Before then, Bangladesh will participate in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers in Myanmar, where they are grouped with hosts Myanmar, Bahrain, and Turkmenistan. If Bangladesh can top the group, they will qualify for the Asian Cup for the first time in their history.

A strong showing in the qualifiers could have a further positive impact on Bangladesh’s ranking, and for the first time, the team has a chance to break the 1100-point mark.

The United States remain at the top of the women’s rankings. Egypt recorded the biggest improvement this cycle, jumping seven places, while the United Arab Emirates suffered the biggest drop, falling five places.

The current top five teams are:

United States

Spain

Germany

Brazil (up four places)

England (down one place)

There were five changes in the top 10 overall. Japan slipped two places to seventh, Canada dropped one spot to eighth, and France climbed one spot to re-enter the top 10 in 10th position.
