With one match still to go, Bangladesh ‘A’ had already secured the series victory against New Zealand ‘A’. However, in the final match at Sylhet, the hosts suffered a significant batting collapse. Despite the early setbacks, a composed innings from Yasir Ali Rabbi and a gritty knock by Nasum Ahmed helped Bangladesh recover and post a competitive total.

Batting first at the Sylhet Academy Ground after losing the toss, Nurul Hasan Sohan’s side were bowled out for 227 in 47.3 overs. To avoid a series whitewash, New Zealand ‘A’ must chase down the target within the allotted overs.

The innings began on a shaky note for Bangladesh as both openers, Naim Sheikh (4) and Anamul Haque Bijoy (2), departed with just 16 runs on the board. Saif Hassan provided a brief spark with a quickfire 31 off 25 balls but couldn’t convert it into a big innings. Afif Hossain fell cheaply for 1.

With the scoreboard reading 54 for 4, Yasir Ali stepped in to steady the innings. Holding one end, he tried to rebuild despite losing partners regularly—Nurul Hasan (12) and Mosaddek Hossain (4) fell in quick succession. Yasir eventually scored a well-crafted 63 off 65 balls, laced with 7 fours and 3 sixes, before being dismissed.

Bangladesh looked vulnerable again at 146 for 7, but Nasum Ahmed rose to the occasion. Batting at number eight, he displayed grit and determination, forming small partnerships with the tail and carrying the innings deep into the 48th over. Nasum was the last man out, having scored a vital 67 off 97 deliveries, including 9 boundaries and a six.

His effort ensured Bangladesh posted a respectable total, giving their bowlers a chance to push for a series whitewash.
