Samit Makes Top List Again

by Sports Desk

It’s been a great run lately for Bangladeshi footballer Samit Som. Just over a month ago, he captained his club Cavalry FC for the first time — and since then, he’s been in superb form. Although the start of the season in the Canadian Premier League (CPL) was not ideal for Cavalry, both Samit and his team have been steadily finding their rhythm.

Cavalry have won their last two matches, with the most recent victory coming in a dominant 3–0 performance over second-placed HFX Wanderers. That match marked Cavalry’s second win of the season, and Samit played a key role in the triumph, registering his first assist of the campaign.

Thanks to his outstanding performance, Samit was named in the CPL Team of the Week for the second consecutive time. He is joined by three of his teammates — Ali Musse, Tobias Warschewski, and Levi Liang.

In the match against HFX Wanderers, Samit played the full 90 minutes and recorded an impressive 89% passing accuracy. Alongside his assist, he created two clear scoring chances and made five successful passes into the opposition’s final third — all while playing as a double pivot in a defensive midfield role. Remarkably, he also had a 100% success rate on his crosses.

Defensively, Samit’s contribution was equally impressive. He won five ground duels, made four tackles, one interception, and won an aerial duel — showcasing his all-around game and playing a crucial part in his team’s clean sheet.

The 27-year-old Bangladeshi midfielder continues to assert his dominance in midfield, further cementing his reputation as one of the league’s most consistent performers.

In this week’s Team of the Week, Samit has been placed in the central midfield position, alongside David Rodriguez of Atlético Ottawa and Marco Bustos of Pacific FC.
