Miraz Chasing Glory at the Top

Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz has achieved a career-best ranking in Test cricket, rising to No. 2 in the ICC all-rounder rankings following a stellar performance in the recently concluded series against Zimbabwe. His consistent contributions with both bat and ball earned him the Player of the Series award and a significant boost in the latest ICC rankings.

Miraz now holds 327 rating points, trailing only India’s Ravindra Jadeja, who leads with 400 points. The gap stands at 73 points, but Miraz has his sights set firmly on the top spot.

Speaking to the media in Mirpur on Tuesday, Miraz said, “It feels great. Honestly, reaching number one would feel even better. That’s the goal—to go higher. At the end of the day, I need to stay fit, perform well, and keep delivering. I’m not overthinking it, just trying to take small steps forward.”

Miraz was in red-hot form during the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe. In the first Test in Sylhet, he took five wickets in each innings, achieving a 10-wicket haul in the match—a rare feat in Bangladesh cricket.

He followed it up with an even more dominant display in the second Test in Chattogram. Miraz scored a brilliant 104 runs in the first innings and claimed five wickets in Zimbabwe’s second innings, guiding Bangladesh to an innings-and-106-run victory. His all-around brilliance earned him the Player of the Match award as well.

With this kind of form, Mehidy Hasan Miraz is emerging not just as Bangladesh’s leading all-rounder, but as one of the best in world cricket.
